ANIMAL WELFARE

Cadelga Cattle Co is committed to minimising all avoidable stress and discomfort in our operations. We constantly strive to raise the bar and seek out ways to improve our practices.

Hear about our Animal Welfare commitment:

1

LOW STRESS STOCK HANDLING

Low stress stock handling is crucial at Cadelga Cattle Co, significantly enhancing both animal welfare and operational efficiency. By employing low stress techniques, the company ensures that cattle remain calm and healthy, reducing the incidence of injury and disease, which leads to better overall productivity. Additionally, low stress handling contributes to improved meat quality, as stress hormones like cortisol can negatively impact meat tenderness and flavour. Ultimately, this approach aligns with our commitment to ethical farming practices, fostering a sustainable and humane environment for our livestock.

2

CATTLE FRIENDLY FACILITIES

Our facilities were meticulously designed with high standards of animal welfare in mind, ensuring the utmost care and comfort for our livestock. These animal-friendly facilities incorporate spacious and clean areas, allowing animals to move freely and exhibit natural behaviours. We have integrated state-of-the-art handling systems that minimise stress and prevent injury during routine management practices. Our facilities include comfortable surfaces and easy access to clean water and nutritious feed, promoting overall health and wellbeing. By prioritising these elements, we not only enhance the quality of life for our animals but also improve productivity and product quality.

3

REGULAR VETERINARIAN INSPECTIONS

Regular veterinarian inspections are invaluable to our efforts in creating a healthy environment for our cattle. These regular check-ups allow us to promptly identify and address any health issues, ensuring timely treatment. By monitoring the overall health and wellbeing of our herd, veterinarians can provide expert guidance on nutrition and vaccination schedules, all of which are crucial for maintaining robust livestock. These inspections help us uphold high standards of animal welfare by ensuring that any signs of stress or discomfort are quickly mitigated. Through consistent veterinary oversight, we can foster a thriving, healthy environment for our cattle.

4

PADDOCK BEFORE ENTRY TO PEN

Before entering the feedlot, it's a mandatory requirement for all our cattle to spend time in a paddock. This step is fundamental as it ensures their overall gut health and welfare. By allowing them to graze in a natural environment, it encourages their instinctual behaviors and supports optimal digestion. Grazing on diverse vegetation in the paddock helps in developing a healthy gut microbiome, crucial for efficient nutrient absorption and a robust immune system. Moreover, this grazing period provides the cattle with the opportunity to exercise and socialize, further enhancing their wellbeing.
